The Big Easy vibe on seaside streets

-

The sounds of New Orleans arrive in Kent this weekend. The eighth annual Margate Jazz Festival will take place in the town from Friday, June 21, to Sunday, June 23, and for the first time, music will be performed on the pavements of the Old Town. Event founder David Mossman, director of London’s renowned Vortex Jazz Club, believes the new move will create a unique party atmosphere. He said: “Sunday’s programme features an amazing range of music – from authentic Balkan and gypsy jazz to Brazilian bossa nova, to Italian swing. The performers have played at the best jazz clubs and festivals in the world but you won’t see them in a better location than Margate, and certainly not for free.” The festival has featured a host of jazz stars including Cleo Laine, Johnny Dankworth, Nigel Kennedy, Courtney Pine and Jamie Cullum.
