Born in Bath, she now lives at Kingston upon Thames in Surrey. Jacqueline has written 100 books. It takes her around six months to write a book, writing it in longhand before typing it on a computer.

Her text is often interspersed with ink drawings by illustrator Nick Sharratt, who also designs the covers for her books. From 2005 to 2007, she was children’s laureate. A TV adaptation of Jacqueline’s The Story of Tracy Beaker, starring Dani Harmer, ran from 2002 to 2005 on CBBC. It was followed by Tracy Beaker Returns in 2010, The Tracy Beaker Survival Files in 2012, and current spin-off The Dumping Ground.

In addition to her works of fiction, she has written two autobiographies, Jacky Daydream and My Secret Diary.
