Players’ three of a kind
An evening of one-act comedies is the latest offering from the Birchington Guild of Players. The first two plays are by Alan Ayckbourn: Mother Figure, which tells the story of mum Lucy (Lynn Dey), who is unable to escape from baby talk, and the encounter she has with neighbours Rosemary and Terry (Sherry Underwood and Philip Godfrey); and Drinking Companion, about an unsuccessful seduction attempt by Lucy’s husband, Harry (James Coare), when he meets Paula (Ria Dey) and Bernice (Barbara Dobson). The third production is Last Tango in Little Birchington by David Tristram. It tells the story of a local amateur drama society whose membership has dwindled to four: Gordon (Philip Godfrey), Bernard (Rob Murphy), Joyce (Rita Taylor) and Margaret (Pat Dixon). They decide at their annual meeting that it is time for action, and there is only one thing that sells tickets – sex. The shows are at the Birchington village centre, near Margate, at 7.30pm on Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5. Tickets cost £8, or £7 for concessions, and include a light supper. Call 01843 841522.
