Vibrant start to Deal Festival
Balkan beats, mesmeric African sounds, hot jazz and cool Bach will herald the start of Deal Festival. The diverse array of music, along with dancing and storytelling, will be on offer at Europa, the opening night event taking place from 8pm at the Astor Theatre on Friday, June 28. Performers will include five-piece Balkan band Dunajska Kapelye; viola player Max Baillie; Gambian kora player Sura Susso; and Broadstairs jazz musician Abigail Cardwell. Storyteller Roisin Murray from Walmer will also have a tale or two to share. It is an appropriately eclectic start to the 10-day festival, which will feature performances from a variety of music genres, as well as storytelling and film screenings.
