Kentish Express Ashford & District - What's On
THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT ENTERTAINMENT
It may not always be able to guarantee the sunshine but what it can guarantee is a top day out – whatever the weather. From activities to animals, ample parking and other facilities, somewhere to have lunch and hundreds of stalls to pick up something to take home, entertainment is high on the organisers’ to-do list at this year’s show. Show chairman, Kevin Attwood, right, said: “A day out is exactly what it should be – a whole day. The Kent County Show opens at 8am and closes at 6pm and we have entertainment throughout the day.” The annual show at Detling has displays and arena events on all three days. There’s ringside seating around the main arena so you can get a good vantage point of what’s going on. The traditional funfair is a nostalgic nod to days gone by when funfairs were built by craftsmen and travelled the country. With more than 500 shops, stands and stalls, there’s something for everyone, from specialist supplies to small, bespoke crafts and trinkets. Making his first appearance at the show will be Sheridan the Robotic Sheepdog, who is sure to be a hit with the youngest visitors. The bandstand next to the large picnic area is also a wonderful spot to relax and listen to some of the diverse bands and musicians that will be coming to the show. Among the acts taking centre stage will be Casablanca Steps, talented musicians and entertainers, who recreate the authentic music of the 1920s and 1930s. Maidstone’s Muddy River Soul and Blues Band are a popular group, playing some of the best songs ever written. As you pass by you may find you feel like getting up and dancing – you’re unlikely to be the only one.
