A charity in the Weald is marking half a century of helping those struggling with addiction. Yalding-based Kenward Trust has been providing residential addiction rehabilitation services across the county as well as education programmes in schools for the last half a century, as well as more recently befriending services in prisons.

There will be a series of events during the charity’s anniversary week, starting on Wednesday, July 4, with an afternoon tea and the chance to hear tales from Tower of London chief exhibitor and Queen’s Body Guard Keith Hanson between 2pm and 4pm. On Friday, July 6 the butterfly ball will include a three course meal with entertainment from magician Etienne Pradier and music from Cheryl Baker and her band The Fizz.

On Saturday, July 7, the Kent Police Male Voice Choir will be performing an evening of light classical, popular music and songs from the shows, before on Sunday, July 8 there will be a 5K family fun run starting at 10am, the first Kent Superhero Run with Youcan Youth Cancer Support. Under 11s can take part in a 1.5K run.

Chief executive Penny Williams said: “We are passionate about our work and helping individuals to transform their lives by avoiding dependency upon drugs and alcohol.

“This is vital and essential for all of us in society since alcohol and substance addiction can affect anyone, anywhere and at any time of life.”
