THEY’RE LIVING THE MILDLIFE
Three years ago Mildlife took a year off from playing live shows to figure out how they could produce as much of their music live as they possibly could, without losing its complexity.
Adamant that they are not a studio band, they wanted to keep the ‘live’ in any recordings. “It makes the performance, the composition, more malleable,” says guitarist Adam Halliwell. Bassist Tom Shanahan adds: “It feels more authentic. The energy can be in the song rather than sitting on top of it. We wanted to leave a lot of room for improvisation.” The Aussie band – that also features Kevin Mcdowell (synth and vocals) and Maria Moles (drums) – have developed a tight live show bolstered by wild improvisation, mining jazz, psych and disco.
At the start of this year, the Melbourne-based band released their debut album and have been picking up praise from the likes of BBC 6 ever since
They have just completed a sold-out tour of their home country and have now headed to Europe for more live dates. After playing Manchester, Birmingham and London, they head to the Ramsgate Music Hall this weekend on Saturday, September 15.
