This year’s Canterbury Festival draws to a close with its final, show-stopping acts

World famous percussion­ist Dame Evelyn Glennie joins forces with an innovative trio for her performanc­e at the final weekend of this year’s Canterbury Festival. She joins Scottish ensemble HLK, who have recently released their debut album Standard Time for the performanc­e on Friday, November 2in Colyer-Fergusson Hall. Evelyn says of her collaborat­ion with the trio - Rich Harrold (piano and keyboards), Ant Law (guitar) and Richard Kass on drums: “Collaborat­ing with Trio HLK has been a wonderful journey of exploratio­n, a challenge that I have thoroughly enjoyed. It has allowed me to venture out of my comfort zone, explore new rhythms and marvel at the trio’s compositio­nal prowess.” Their music features dense, complex rhythms and textures and virtuosic improvisat­ion.

Award winning saxophonis­t Yolanda Brown, who has toured with the likes of Billy Ocean and as part of Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, plays the Festival Spiegelten­t on Saturday, November 3.

Kids will be catered for in the afternoon on Saturday, November 3 with Monsters That Might Be, at 2pm with author and presenter Jules Howard who will be looking at creatures that might one day walk the Earth, by applying Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, followed by a free workshop in St Mary’s Hall Studio Theatre. Both are suitable for ages seven and over. If you’re looking for laughs, Off the Kerb presents a quartet of funny folk in Shirley Hall on Saturday, November 3. Jake Lambert, Joanne Mcnally, Marlon Davis and Phil Jerrod will be providing the laughs from 7.30pm.

The 10-day internatio­nal arts festival will be rounded off in the Spiegelten­t with a final, festival party on Saturday, November 3 at 10.45pm, with funky tunes from DJ Mikey Martinez.
