Kentish Express Ashford & District - What's On

A trio of tasty treats

-

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a food and drink connoisseur, you’re in luck because this week there are three great gourmet festivals at your feet.

The first of our mouth-watering trio is a beer festival boasting booze from almost 40 different breweries.

The Dartford Beer Festival is one of the touring festivals put on by Craft Beer Folk and, as the name suggests, its big draw is its huge selection of craft beers. The outdoor festival, which is also visiting venues in Brighton and Crystal Palace this the summer, is an outdoor event that brings together producers from all over the south east.

If you’re not a beer lover, you can always pick up a glass of cider or wine. There will also be live music and street food stalls across the weekend.

The Dartford Beer Festival is at Central Park from Friday, May 17 to Sunday, May 19. Tickets start from £10 and can be booked online.

That’s not the only place punters can enjoy a drink or two that weekend, as the Canterbury Wine Festival will also be opening its doors for its 10th year.

The festival is a celebration of Kent’s homegrown wines and stunning vineyards.

It all takes place at Westgate Hall on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18 and costs £45 per ticket.

Included in the price is the chance to try 45 wines from 16 different vineyards, including Balfour Winery in Staplehurst, Chapel Down in Tenterden, Biddenden Vineyards near Ashford and Squerryes Winery in Westerham.

There’s also a 45-minute wine tasting masterclass from expert Clive Barlow, who is one of only 418 Masters of Wine in the world.

If you need some food to soak up all that booze, you can also swing by the

Tenterden Food and Drink Festival.

The annual festival has a great selection of artisan bakes, street food and local produce.

Alongside more than 40 food and drink stalls, there will be live music, stand-up comedy and children’s entertainment to keep visitors of all ages busy throughout the day.

It all takes place at the Recreation Ground in Tenterden from Friday, May 17 to Sunday, May 19, and it’s completely free to enter.
