CANTERBURY & DISTRICT LEAGUE: CHAMPIONS CONTINUE TO PROGRESS IN KENT CUP, WRITES BILL CLARK

-

FAVERSHAM Harlequin will face Deal Town Rangers in the semi-finals of the Kent Cup after reaching the last four for the second season running.

Against Rolvenden, the Canterbury League champions took the lead through Tyler Clements and Sammy Croucher before half-time. Jason Mills scored a third on the hour to send Harlequin safely through.

Ben Kesby and Michael Crocker had Blean calling the shots against Faversham United in the Canterbury Charity Cup, Senior Section.

However, the Commoners were punished for poor defending when James Benstead scored his ninth goal of the season.

Blean finally went through when Crocker fired home a third but a Shane Gaston own goal ensured a nervous finale for John Elliott’s team.

St Stephens beat Canterbury City A 12-0 but they will face a tougher test at Red Arrow in the next round.

Danny Wells (6), John Pilcher (5) and Ugo Emekwue shared the dozen.

Elsewhere, Myles Gilligan, Casper Wood, Joe Popoola, Oreva Amata and an own goal put the University into the semi-finals as they beat Snowdown 5-4.

Dean Johnston (2), Alfie Holland and Duncan Bishop were on target for the Miners.

In the junior section, Burgess Hodgson beat Beltinge 3-0 to set up a semi-final meeting with Woodnesborough.

Matt Lightfoot’s double took him to 29 goals for the season and Adam Horne completed the scoring.

The Plough also reached the last-four thanks to a 4-3 win at Mersham Sports.

James Hart, Ollie Omer and Scott Rigden netted for the Whitstable side before Mersham rallied with goals from Bradley Godden (2) and Ewan Stanley.
