Dudgeon secures Ash win

Kent Regional Lge

-

Ash came out on top of a lowscoring 1A East clash with Nelson, with Tim Dudgeon starring with both ball and bat, writes SAM ELLIS.

Having lost the toss, Ash were sent into bat and made a modest 103 all out, with Dudgeon (25) top scoring.

But it was his performance with the ball, a classy return of 6-19, that helped Ash skittle Nelson out for 75.

Ash captain Dan Laslett said: “Tim played exceptionally well, especially with the ball and he was our man-of-thematch.”

Ash find themselves sitting third in the league 22 points off top spot, after this important victory against their close rivals.

Laslett added: “We need to keep pushing on and hopefully others fail around us.

“It’s maintaining a consistent side, that’s always the issue we have.”

Elsewhere in 1A East, leaders Street End beat Worth by 62 runs.

Street End were put into bat with Kevin Hopper (64), Will Godmon (50) and Paul Betts (50) taking them to 300-9.

The Worth reply was valiant but a share of the wickets for the Street End bowlers provided them with the victory.

Littlebourne were on the end of a tight away loss against Margate, with Tony Beer (64) leading the charge after losing the toss.

Margate got the total with 17 balls to spare as the Littlebourne bowlers were made to work hard to no avail.

There was a crushing defeat for Whitstable at the Radfall Rec, where Sandwich scored an impressive 314-3.

The Whitstable reply lasted 34 overs before they were all out for 129. Canterbury’s 1B East game was a spectacle for supporters as they secured a three-wicket victory in the last over. Mike Eeles’ 68 helped Canterbury 3rds in their reply to Ramsgate’s 197, with the home side winning with one ball to spare.

There was another close affair in Saltwood, as Bossingham just fell short of their target of 217.

Sending Saltwood in to bat, Andy Ford claimed figures of 3-37 but was let down as Bossingham fell three runs short on 214-7 (Damion Truelove 37, Andy Raines 34).

Sturry won their low-scoring game with Dover Cosmopolitans, with Jake Fagg taking the plaudits with superb bowling figures of 6-25 after Dover had won the toss and chose to bat.

A quickfire 54 from Brett Marshall gave Sturry the points after just 16.4 overs as they chased down their modest victory target of 96.

Herne Bay went to Minster, sending them into bat and dismissing them for 186.

But Bay could only manage 162 all out in their 46 overs.

Littlebourne 3rds were thrashed by 10 wickets in their 1C East fixture with Folkestone 3rds.

Littlebourne were all out for an embarrassing 35 in just 14.4 overs with Jake Harrison (16) the only player to reach double figures.

Folkestone raced to their target in just seven overs.

Ash 2nds were convincing winners in their 2B East game with Nelson after Ed Matthews scored an unbeaten 75, helping Ash to post a total of 233-8.

Nelson could only manage 96 in reply, Paul Giles being the pick of the bowlers with 3-18.

Jack Parr was unlucky to be on the losing side for Littlebourne 2nds in their 2A East game with Bapchild.

After losing the toss, Parr’s 4-60 helped Littlebourne limit Bapchild to 209 all out.

But, despite a gutsy 56 for Parr, Littlebourne found themselves all out for 170.

Nonington conceded their 1C East fixture at Pluckley.

Sheldwich eased to an impressive nine-wicket victory over Milstead in the Kent Invicta League, Premier Division on Saturday.
