Kentish Gazette Canterbury & District
Chance to reward the Unsung Hero
Unsung heroes – every sports club and organisation has them. From the guy who collects the subs and puts the nets up on a Sunday morning, to the person who takes a car full to that long away match, even though he’s not even playing. The lifeblood of any club, they’re usually individuals who go about their business in the background and take on all the sort of mundane but necessary jobs nobody else wants to do. They don’t seek recognition but they are also often the people deserving of most credit, so if you know someone who fits that description, then nominate them now for the Canterbury and District Sports Awards Unsung Hero award. The award will go to somebody who has made a significant contribution to their club and sport over several years and nominees should either currently be a resident or involved within sport in the Canterbury district. Nominations close on Friday, September 20, with the top three nominees in each category invited to attend the awards evening at the King’s Hall, Herne Bay on Friday, October 18. Nominations can be made online at www. activecanterbury.org. Alternatively, printed nomination forms can be obtained by contacting the Sports Development Team on 01227 862 524 or e-mailing giles.seaford@canterbury.gov. uk. Organisers of this year’s awards are hoping to attract a record number of nominations with categories for Junior, Senior and Disabled Sports Performer of the Year, Junior and Senior Club of the Year, Coach and a special Community Award, sponsored by the Kentish Gazette. The awards are run in association with Matt Fiddes Martial Arts Kent with McDonald’s and Herne Bay Mobility the other sponsors.
