Fun and food galore at fundraising fair

-

Organisers of the 56th annual joint fair put on by staff at Kent and Canterbury Hospital and its League of Friends on Saturday are hopeful they will match last year’s figure .

They are optimistic they will raise £10,000 after hundreds of people flocked to the event, despite the threat of rain and wind-battered stalls.

More than 26 hospital departments and nine league groups set up a variety of stalls from books and bric-a-brac to cakes, tombolas and ‘fishing for ducks’ for visitors to enjoy.

The Lord Mayor Cllr Heather Taylor, introduced with a fanfare from the City of Canterbury Brass Band, opened the event at noon.

The ever-popular bouncy castle and traditional funfair stalls were kept in constant use during the afternoon. Canterbury Rotary provided a barbecue, the Inner Wheel supplied refreshments and Sunrise Rotary helped to collect some of the prizes for the draw. The fair closed with the results of the draw being announced, which with cash prizes totalling £1,000 and numerous other products, proved to be very popular.

Chairman of the League of Friends Stuart Field said: “The fair is our largest single fundraising event during the year and we are delighted it went so well and that despite the current financial climate, we are continuing to bring in around £10,000 on the day.”
