Homing Club were favourites for the drop from the top-flight in the Whitstable & District Thursday Night League but they began their campaign with a superb 16-9 win at Monument C.

Steve Foley was in fine form and was well supported by Glen Pollitt, Rees Evans, Robbie Luton and Dave McGilley. Peter Lawrence, though, had a winning week for the C side.

Monument A also surprised last year’s cup winners Quayside 14-11. Garry Foster with three 140s was in top form along with Luke Palmer and Tom Hadler. Ant Warren and Steve Milward won four each for the hosts, who were missing players through holidays.

Last year’s champions East Kent started with a walkover after Wall Tavern struggled to find five fit players.

Division 2 looks like it could be a tight league with last year’s strugglers The Two Brewers A having a 15-10 win over Two Brewers B.

Nick Axford, Ollie Crocombe and Megan Crocombe all won four. Lee Hancock was the B stand out player also winning four. In the other pub derby, New Inn 4U beat New Inn A 1510, with the highlight being a superb 135 checkout and four wins for Graham Goodwin. Rob Bergin also won four, with only Richard Brown having a winning week for A.

Labour Club are the early leaders, beating Angling Club 16-9. Stuart Rule with a 107 checkout the star, although Carol Joint did have three successes for the Anglers.
