Great things ahead for school’s star students

Canterbury High School

-

There were star students galore at Canterbury High, which celebrated an record year of results from its latest crop of outgoing Year 11s.

An impressive 96% of pupils gained more than five GCSEs at grades A* to C – nearly two thirds of whom also bagged English and maths passes.

One of the top performers was Canterbury teen Beatrice Syanbola, who achieved 11 A* and A grade GCSEs.

She said: “I was hoping I would do this well, because I really tried my best. I’m really happy and excited.

“I’m going on to sixth form now to study chemistry, physics, maths and French. I’m hoping to study chemical engineering at university, and then I want to do a masters.”

Pleased

There were tears of joy from Ella Griffiths, who was pleasantly surprised with her three Bs and two Cs.

She said: “I’m really really pleased with my results. I wasn’t expecting to do that well, but now I can go to Simon Langton Girls’ sixth form to study English, business, sociology and geography.”

Most of the students are planning to study at the school’s 450-strong sixth form or at Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys, in subjects including English, maths, sociology, biology, law and dance.

Head of School, Jon Watson said: “We are delighted with another set of fantastic results for our students, particularly the high levels of those that have achieved grades A* to C in English and maths.

“The results are the culmination of a dedicated and hardworking student body and an enthusiastic, committed teaching staff working in partnership with parents.”

Executive Principal Phil Karnavas said the results were particularly impressive, considering the fact that examination boards have made it harder for students to achieve the highest grades.
