‘I was very nervous and shaking’
St Anselm’s
Head teacher Mike Walters is toasting the school’s best results ever.
He said: “St Anselm’s continues to show what an all-ability school can achieve with an academic curriculum, expert teachers, hard-working pupils, supportive parents and dedicated governors.
“These GCSE results, allied to very pleasing AS-Level and A-Level results last week, are an illustration of the continued progress of the school.
“Our strong academic and spiritual values ensure that each student, regardless of ability, can succeed and fulfil their potential.
“Our inclusive school ensures the success of our academically able students and of our students who need support with their learning.”
Improvement
More than 50% of pupils achieved five or more A* to C grades with English and mathematics, an improvement of 19% on 2012 results, while 75% of pupils achieved 5 or more A* to C grades overall.
Emily Holmes achieved eight grades at A or better.
The 16-year-old: “I’m over the moon, but still shocked by it.
“I did put in the hours, but I had fantastic teachers and great support from mum and dad.”
Amy Petts, 16, finished with five A*s and four As.
She said: “I was very nervous when I was opening the envelope and I was shaking.
“When I saw what was inside I was so happy and relieved.”
Other pupils who did particularly well were: Sorcha Clancy, Kathryn Holmes, Edward Knight, Teresa Mathew, Abigail McIlfatrick and Joseph Needham.
