Lights shine over Masters spectacle

The Northern Lights won the inaugural Canterbury Mixed Masters tournament, held at Polo Farm over the Bank Holiday weekend, with four wins from five games.
The team from Yorkshire’s only defeat came against Muffins, who won all three of their games but were unable to fulfil fixtures on Sunday afternoon or Monday.
Kent Cobs were in third place with a resounding win in the final game against Old Williamsonians.
Teams from Cliftonville and Canterbury completed the line-up.
Despite the awful weather on Saturday, everyone enjoyed the weekend and Canterbury have hopes of a larger tournament next year once the word is spread.
Canterbury Men played a pre-season friendly against St Albans on Saturday and with several new faces, some youngsters and lots unavailable through holiday and injury, enjoyed a 5- 0 victory.
Canterbury HC’s Junior section return to action this weekend.
Mini-hockey sessions for under-10 boys and girls – those in school years 1-5 – will run from 9am-10.15am on Sunday, with under-12s – schools years 6 & 7 – in action from 10.30am-noon.
New players of all standards are welcome with sticks provided if needed.
Sessions cost £4 each and there is no annual subscription.
Training for the under-14 to under-18 age-groups resumes next week, with new players of all standards also welcome.
The under-14 girls will train from 6.30-8pm on Wednesday, September 11, with the under-16 and under-18 girls following from 8-9.30pm.
The under-16 boys will train from 7.45-9.15pm the same evening while the under-14 boys will return on Thursday, September 12, from 6.15-7.45pm with the under-18 boys training from 7.45-9.15pm the same night.
