The annual Herne Bay Mixed Triples Open Tournament attracted 18 team entries.

Each team played six games of 50 minutes duration with two points for winning, a point for each end won and all shots scored during the day counting as one point each.

The winners were Queenborou­gh triple Jack Jarvis, Gina Shoebridge and John Crouch with 99 points.

Runners-up from Birchingto­n were Pam Back, Alan Back and Alan Robinson with 89 points with third place going to Lyn Phillips and Bill Robb of Herne Bay and Vic Field of Margate with 84 points.

Herne Bay have a five-point lead at the top of the Forest of Blean League with one game remaining after a 72-shot win over Whitstable while nearest rivals Canterbury suffered a shock defeat at Charing.

Bay won five of the six triples to secure seven league points. Herne Bay 140 Whitstable 68: Bob Baldwin, Bob Day, Bill Robb won 21-13; Dave Mason, Robbie Irons, Ian Robb won 34-4; Terry Kelly, Alf Collar, Brian Dennis won 19-12; Ray Chipperfie­ld, Ray Day, Tony Bishop lost 1916; Len Brown, Peter Gibson, Brian Gisby won 26-5; Les Mason, John Melford, Eddie Allen won 24–15.

The 10 mixed rinks played against Medway Bowling Associatio­n were shared but it was Medway who won overall by 38 shots.
