Classes that tap into your creative juices

-

Aspiring actors and writers are being offered their time to shine with a new term of creative classes at the Marlowe Theatre.

The series of workshops starts on Monday, April 28, giving participants of all ages and abilities the opportunity to perform.

They will work with the Marlowe’s creative team and take part in end-of-term performances as well as largescale projects.

The theatre’s first community production, The Garden Of England, took place earlier this month and involved more than 150 people aged seven to 77.

The project, which looked at what it means to live in Kent, was held over four days in and around the venue.

Among them was Canterbury sales consultant Tarquin Taylor, 25, who said: “To be honest, it blew my mind! Within five or six months of joining the class I was acting in front of hundreds of people.

“It was something I never would have tried or considered before and I was surprised at how quickly we learnt and pulled it together.”

Another cast member was eight-year-old Emilio Caggiano, who added: “We worked really hard and there was a lot to remember, but it was great fun and I can’t wait to do it again.”

The Marlowe Minis group, for children aged five to seven, provides an introduction to the world of theatre with drama activities, music and games.

The Marlowe Youth Theatre includes the Marlowe Junior Company for eight to 11-yearolds, the Marlowe Apprentice Company for 12 to 15-yearolds and the Marlowe Senior Company for 16 to 21-year-olds.

Adults also have the chance to learn new skills with the Marlowe’s People Company for over 18s, which provides acting training for all levels of experience.

Led by Marlowe literary associate and playwright Simon Mendes da Costa, the theatre also offers writing workshops through its Young Writers programme for ages 13 to 18 and Marlowe’s Playwrights for over 18s.

Marlowe’s Speakeasy, also for over 18s, explores different styles of theatre through a mixture of acting and writing.

The theatre’s head of creative projects Daniel Lipman said: “We look forward to the new term for a chance to meet and work with new people of all ages, while continuing the growth of current participants.

“The feedback we have had is that they relish the opportunity to try something creative, meet new people and have a good time.”

Workshop places cost £59 for a 10-week term. To find out more, including dates and prices, call 01227 787787, go to marlowetheatre.com or email info@marlowetheatre.com
