Kentish Gazette Canterbury & District
Premier title only settled in last game
TABLE TENNIS RUGBY
The Premier Division of the Canterbury & District Table Tennis Association saw one of its closest ever finishes as Hoath A pipped rivals Iron Room A to the title by a single point. Hoath A had to complete their outstanding fixtures to decide the destiny of the title, and it all came down to their final game against their own C team. The match was incredibly close and was eventually won by the C team 6-3, which almost cost their clubmates the title. Division 1 winners were Chestfield Warriors 2 with Choughs B runners-up while in Division 2 Herne Bay F finished top with their D side in second spot. Division 3 saw Faversham D finish first with CW9 in second and Herne Bay K took the Division 4 title with Faversham F in second place. The two handicap team competitions, the Dare Cup and Lew Vale Cup, produced an unprecedented results with Warriors’ Division 3 team CW9 winning both finals. In the Lew Vale Cup they faced Warriors’ Division 1 team CW3 and won 13-7, both Jon Nevitt and David Chapman winning five of the six sets played. In the Dare Cup final CW9 faced another Warriors team, CW1, and the victory was even greater with a margin of 134 points after all the singles matches had been played. This might seem poor handicapping but on the night it was a superb display by the Division 3 team and a below par performance by the Premier side that resulted in such a wide margin and not the starting handicap which was a reasonable 242 points.
