Leggatt continues winning form

Simon Leggatt produced an outstanding round of two-overpar 73 to comfortably win the Men’s Easter Competition at Canterbury on Sunday.
Six-handicap Leggatt was a winner last month when he and partner Levi Johnson lifted the Hallet Cup by winning the club’s winter league play-off, and he maintained his form by carding three birdies and five bogeys for a score of 40 Stableford points.
He dropped shots at the second and fifth but balanced that with birdies at the third and eighth to turn in level par for a score of 21 points.
Leggatt opened the second nine with bogeys at the 10th and 11th and dropped another shot at the 15th before closing with a birdie for a further 19 points.
Second place on countback went to 11-handicapper Roy Evans, with 37 points, the same score as Paul Blake, also playing off 11.
Four players tied for fourth place on 35 points. Fran Fearn produced a fine round to claim Canterbury Ladies’ Connie Groves Rose Bowl.
The 14-handicapper carded a net 69 and finished three clear of Lesley Pearson (h24) and Angela Self, who was third on countback playing off 19.
Sue Allen was fourth with 74 points, edging out Jacklyn Barons, Christine Burley, Marcella Webb and Jane Webber on countback.
Faversham Ladies’ annual Spring meeting was contested by nearly 50 players with Chrissie Kemsley leading the way in Division 1 and claiming the Spelman Cup, with Zandra Watts runner-up and Linda de Konig in third.
Maureen Eynon topped Division 2 ahead of Jean Jeffries and Sandra Pilcher with Ailsa Garrard carding the lowest gross score.
The Scratch prize went to Abbie Evans.
A 13- hole Greensomes competition was won by Jan Sayle and Valerie Harrison who pushed Zandra Watts and Sue Wraight into second with Sue Henderson and Helen Albery third.
