Trott takes the honours

-

Former Kent fast bowler Ben Trott has become the first winner of the Legends of Kent Cricket golf championship. Trott, who played for Kent for seven seasons until 2004, held off the challenge of ex-england all-rounder Mark Ealham at Canterbury to win with a score of 36 Stableford points. Ealham finished two points behind Trott in second place but had the consolation of leading his team of Mick and Dan Pilbeam and Peter Bundock to first place in the team competition. Trott, 40, who is assistant director of sport at Kent University, said: “I enjoyed my cricketing career but I love playing golf whenever I get the chance. “Most cricketers are pretty handy golfers so I’m thrilled to win this trophy against some tough opposition.” Third place, two points in arrears of Ealham, were pace bowlers Robbie Joseph and Matt Hunn. Ealham’s team of Canterbury players dovetailed in excellent fashion to record a score of 86 points in the best two from four scores format. Kent’s second team coach, Simon Willis, steered his team of Alison Kingston, Richard Young and Richard Jaworski into second place on 84 points, while the threeman team of Trott, Jonathan Webb and Robert Green overcame the disadvantage of being a player short to snatch third place a point behind the runners-up in the Shepherd Neamesponsored event.
