Clean-up delivers a right royal mess

-

Four supermarkets trolleys, two bikes, a scooter, a broken ladder and 32 sacks of rubbish were collected in the latest cleanup of the Kingsmead area of Canterbury.

More than 20 volunteers gathered at the Kingsmead Field on Saturday morning and spread out to clear riversides, the leisure centre, footpaths and the Kingsbrook Park development.

It was the second phase of the Clean for the Queen anti-litter drive ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’S 90th birthday in the summer.

Among those helping with the work were Cllrs Alan Baldock, Terry Westgate and Oliver Fawcett, who is spearheading a campaign to reduce litter in the Canterbury district.

Cllr Fawcett said: “The campaign is about highlighting the impact litter and graffiti have on our environment and working out how to deal with them.”
