All the fun of the Fairtrade fair

-

Lord Mayor Sally Waters was among those who turned out to support the city’s Fairtrade fair on Saturday.

Visitors gathered at the St Peter’s Methodist Church Hall, where the theme was Fairtrade breakfast.

Cllr Waters enjoyed a meal of Fairtrade tea and coffee, muesli, grapefruit and pineapple.

Organiser Joy Sharman said “Our Fairtrade fairs are great places for people to meet and enjoy conversation and good food and to show their support for Fairtrade farmers and craft workers by supporting the stalls.

“This fair was special, as we were celebrating Canterbury’s 10 years as a Fairtrade district.”

Pupils from St Edmund’s School made a papier-mâché mock-up of a Fairtrade breakfast and decorated Fairtrade aprons.

Posters made by pupils of St Peter’s Methodist Primary School were also displayed while the 2nd Chartham Guides sold cupcakes made with Fair- trade ingredients. Pupils from Kent College had a stall selling craft items from Tanzania to raise funds for their links with their partner schools.
