College students get a move on for Sport Relief mile
Charity runners from Canterbury College have been raising money for Sport Relief.
About 50 students and staff gave up their lunch hour to complete two-and-a-half laps of the college grounds on Thursday (March 17).
Competitors paid £1 to take part and received a Sport Relief T-shirt to wear for the race.
Some ran, others walked, and students with mobility difficulties took part in wheelchairs.
Callum Orris, 18, finished in first place, crossing the finishing line in 5 minutes and 11 seconds.
Sports tutor Jack Crittenden said: “It was great to see such a large group of people getting active in such an enjoyable way.
“Hopefully, this will give them the incentive to be active more often. Over the week, we are really pleased to have raised money for such a worthy charity.”
The run was one of a series of Sport Relief events taking place at the college, with indoor football and dodgeball tournaments rasing £100 for good causes. They took place in the college’s new fitness centre, which is available to the public on weekday evenings and all of Saturday.
