Golf round-up

Broome Park GC held their first ‘major’ of the golfing calendar for The Diamonds Resort Trophy on Saturday.

A mixed field of players coped with dry but cold and windy conditions on a course that has weathered well over the winter.

Jamie Taylor led the way for the men with a net 72 playing off 13, one ahead of runner-up Vince Ryan (h10).

The ladies trophy was retained by last year’s winner, 13-handicapper Sylvia Beacham with a net 75.

Runner-up was Sue Shepherd (h16) with a net 80.

Both winners were presented with a four-day holiday for up to four people at one of Diamond Resorts’ UK venues by Del Burtenshaw, the general manager of Diamond Resorts Broome Park Golf Ltd.

Danny Omar finally finished top of the pile as St Stephen’s Golf Society made their first visit to the West Malling ‘Spitfire’ course.

The winter greens made for a tricky round of golf with wet conditions and many water hazards.

After many consolation awards, 13-handicapper Omar led the way with 40 points, three points ahead of the consistant Steve Winder just pipping Darren Holman’s regulation 36 points.

Holman also took a nearest the pin and Captain’s Hole prizes as he and Omar followed up on their Princes GC success earlier in the month.

First-time winner Rob Impey and putting maestro Nigel Stevenson shared the twos club birdie prize.

Andy Simpson, Billy Kohler, Bob Thompson and Paul Valente joined forces to win the Captain’s Farewell Texas Scramble at Chestfield on Sunday.

Their score of a net 57.6 pipped Derek, Matt and Chris Broadbent and Nick Gladstone into second (58.2) with Alan Hall, Sam Maybourne, Mick Lane and Chris Mulvihill just behind with 58.4.

Winner of the Lady Captain’s Farewell Stableford competition was Yvonne Bridge, with 33 points.

Kate Vane was a point back in second while third went to Chris Dunlop and fourth was taken by Jenny Wilson, both scoring 30 points.

The new incoming captains are holding their Drive-in on Saturday.
