Lilywhites still clinging on

KING SCORES TWICE AS COMFORTABLE HOME VICTORY KEEPS FAINT PLAY-OFF HOPES ALIVE Ryman League

-

Faversham Town kept their faint Ryman League Division 1 South play-off hopes alive as they eased to a 4-1 win against Chipstead on Saturday.

The Lilywhites opened the scoring after just eight minutes when Dan Carrington and Luke Harvey combined to find Liam King in the box to divert the ball over the line with his chest.

Town had a let- off when Jason Henry fired wide when clean through on Will Godmon’s goal while at the other end, keeper Luke Colquhoun had to dive to keep out a header from team-mate Tommy Smith.

Godmon thwarted Chris O’flaherty with a fine save and Matt Bourne diverted a Matt Warren header from a corner over before Harvey fired wide and Colquhoun kept out a Sam Bewick header.

The second goal arrived four minutes before the break when Harvey scuffed a shot from a King cut-back across goal where Jamie Maxted was on hand to force the ball past Colquhoun, although he was forced off in the collision.

Colquhoun turned Josh Stanford’s effort round the post before Town’s third arrived seven minutes into the second half when debutant Luke Griffiths crossed for Harvey to slam home. Their fourth came 19 minutes from time when Carl Rook headed down a free-kick for King to produce a spectacular over-the-shoulder volley into the net, although Chipstead grabbed a late consolation when Matthew Males headed home O’flaherty’s corner from the left two minutes from time.

Herne Bay made it three wins in four and extended their unbeaten streak to nine games as they beat Molesey 2-0 at Winch’s Field on Saturday. Goals three minutes into either half from strike duo Ian Pulman and Mark Lovell were enough to seal the points.

Bay had drawn 1-1 with play-off chasing South Park three days earlier with Stuart King netting a stoppage-time leveller to cancel out Ben Senior’s opener on 48 minutes.
