Canterbury A had a convincing win against Aylesham in the National Two Fours competitio­n, winning by 38 shots.

Both rinks were well ahead at 15 ends and Aylesham conceded the game.

Peter Foster, Chris Dawson, Alan Cornfoot and Jeff Vane won 27-4, while Jo Vandapeer, Tony Dobson, Mick Fisher and Steve Wells triumphed 25-10.

Canterbury B lost their Two Fours against Ramsgate winning a game each but losing the match 45-37.

Dave Rickard, Roger Blissett, Colin Strouts and Dave Todd won, although Michael Hutchinson, John King, Mike Talbot and Malcolm Nicholson were beaten. The ladies lost out in the National Top Club competitio­n to Herne Bay. Singles: Madeline Mcconomy lost 23-3; Pairs: June Mitchell, June Baker lost 24-13; Triple: Liz Long, Maureen Aitkin, Sue Close won 17-15; Fours: Christiane De Weduwe, Sandra Swann, Heather Goldsack, Maureen Dilnot won 23-15.

Canterbury ladies beat New Romney by 18 shots after winning on three of the four rinks. Canterbury 33 New Romney 15 Carole Rickard, Val Lundin, June Baker lost 8-5; Sue Longley, Val Hughes, Jennie Wilkinson won 15-0; Maureen Aitkin, Rosemary Wheeler, Carole Nelson won 5-4; Maddie Mcconomy, Joy Burton, Maureen Dilnot won 8-3.

Canterbury’s men played their first game in the Dover League, against Ash and claimed 10 of the available 12 points. Canterbury 68 Ash 28 Bob Keen, Colin Goldsack, Mervin Gulvin won 17-10; Ian Mitchell, Damien Hone, Michael Hutchinson won 11-10. Away: Sam Supple, Brian Wheeler, Dave Swann won 25-2; Duncan Ellis, Roger Gowan, Dick Mortley lost 15-6.

The club won five of eight available East Kent Mixed Triples League points with a 13-shot win over Minster. Canterbury 103 Minster 90 Dave Swann, Christiane De Weduwe, Roger Blissett won 29-6; Ian Burton, Brian Wheeler, Sally Blissett won 26-19; Heather Goldsack, Dave Jenkins, Dick Mortley lost 19-8; Cynthia Bond, Dave Rickard, Bernard Woodhams lost 20-11; Sandra Swann, Colin Goldsack, Mervyn Gulvin lost 17-14; Michael Hutchinson, Roger Gowan, June Baker won 15-9.

Canterbury went top of the Forest of Blean League by claiming six points in a 33-shot cruise against Whitstable. Whitstable 81 Canterbury 114 Tony Dobson, Jo Vandapeer, Mike Talbot won 34-9; Bryan Nicholson, Peter Foster, Ian Burton won 19-14; Tom Nelson, Dave Charlton, Mick Fisher lost 18-11; Darren Ellis, Chris Dawson, Malcolm Nicholson won 15-11; Mervin Gulvin, Alan Marsh, Steve Wells lost 18-16; David Rickard, Roger Blissett, Alan Cornfoot won 19-11.

The city club edged past River by nine shots despite losing four of the six rinks. Canterbury 87 River 78 Duncan Ellis, Darren Ellis, Dave Charlton won 25-8; Alan Burnap, Mike Doyle, Bernard Woodhams won 25-11; Peter Fawcett, Bob Keen, Dick Mortley lost 18-17; Tony Lord, Ian Mitchell, John Cananur lost 27-7; Brian Wheeler, Tom Nelson, Ian Burton lost 14-13.

Canterbury members competed for the Centenary Cup with a mixed triples tournament.

Played on a round-robin basis, each team had to play three 90 minute games.

David Charlton, Rowenda Laming and David Rickard were the winners after being the only team to win all three encounters.

Whitstable lost by 14 shots at home to Boughton in the Catherine Wheeler League on Thursday to earn just four points to the visitors’ 13. Whitstable 96 Boughton 109 Tony Petts, Patricia Vaz, Garth Coates won 16-11; Bob Davey, Joan Davey, Martin Hakes won 17-14; Philip Gardiner, Ronald Vaz, Barbara Mcgillicud­dy lost 19-17; Ray Mcdonald, Brian Gentle, Daphne Ellinor lost 17-13; Jim Hatton, Linda Lane, Paul Browning lost 20-14; Brian Watson, Christophe­r Twyman, Patricia Pout lost 28-19.

Despite splitting the six rinks played against Walpole Bay in the Catherine Wheeler League, Whitstable enjoyed a 57-shot win overall to claim 11 points to Bay’s six. The following day, the ladies lost on five of the six rinks at Canterbury and by 61 shots. Canterbury 131 Whitstable 70 Patricia Vaz, Linda Lane, Patricia Pout won 18-16; Edna Hall, Ann French, Maureen James lost 22-13; Barbara Mcgillicud­dy, Susan Quilter, Jean Harman lost 27-14; Rosemary Field, Irene Fairhall, Kathy Purdy lost 26-11; Rita Hall, Jacqueline Denford, Gail Phasey lost 15-10; Yvonne Gann, Margaret Goodger, Margaret Morris lost 25-4.

Whitstable’s men were beaten by 33 shots in a Forest of Blean League clash at home to Canterbury and took just two of eight points available.
