Dudgeon and Laslett lead Ash to memorial match win

Ash won the inaugural Pat Smalley memorial match when they beat Sandwich Town 3rds by 91 runs in Championsh­ip East, writes Sonny Snelling. The late Mr Smalley, who died last September, was an Ash stalwart – his associatio­n with the village club stretching back 66 years – while he also played for Sandwich in his younger days. Gary Laslett (91) and Tim Dudgeon (72) top scored for Ash whose total of 207-5 was bolstered by 64 runs from the last six overs. Dudgeon then impressed with the ball, taking 4-15 as Sandwich were 116 all out. The result leaves Ash in sixth place and Sandwich two places below. Littlebour­ne’s game against Nelson was abandoned as was the 1A East fixture between Canterbury 3rds and Selsted 1sts. In 1A Central, Sheldwich totalled 155-9 against against Hunton Wanderers with James Creed making 30 and Dan Ray 27. Ron Brown then chipped with 4-19 as Hunton were 76 all out. Sturry remain top of 1B East after Folkestone 3rds conceded. Alistair Scott-kilvert of Ash 2nds returned superb figures of 7-17 from eight overs as Littlebour­ne 3rds were 69 all out (Paul Spratt 18) in 1C East. Bob Elvy’s 27 then helped Ash reach their modest target for the loss of four wickets. Exiles at Stelling Minnis’s home game with Tenterden 3rds was abandoned due to a waterlogge­d pitch. In 2A East, Littlebour­ne 2nds beat Old Williamson­ians 2nds by three wickets, opener Mario Draper’s 34 being the top score as they chased down the OWS total of 153-9. For Bourne, Andy Coleman, Thomas Anderson, Jamie Mears and Robbie Lawson all took two wickets each. Struggling Herne Bay were dismissed for 120 (Jeremy Taylor 22) by Sandwich 4ths in 2B East. Sandwich then eased home by nine wickets. Skipper Joe Goldbacher hit 60 as Street End beat Whitstable’s 3rds by 43 runs. Matthew Goldbacher added 25 and then claimed 3-32 from nine overs as Whitstable 3rds were dismissed for 106 in reply. Jevin Amin and Jonah Duggan both took 2-12.
