Big clean-up job

-

A clear-up of a huge mountain of rubbish found behind Vauxhall Avenue in Canterbury has begun.

Tyres and more than 100 fridges were discovered in thick undergrowth behind houses and close to the Stour in what amounted to one of the worst episodes of fly-tipping ever seen in Canterbury.

City council spokesman Rob Davies said: “The first phase is removing the household rubbish that has been dumped at the rear of houses at the bottom of Vauxhall Avenue.

“A pile of tyres was taken away on Monday.

“We anticipate being on site most of this week but this will depend on what else we find as it continues.”
