Was this Sir Julian Brazier’s “Maggie moment”?

On receiving his knighthood in the New Year’s Honours List there was some speculation that the MP might retire after 30 years in the post.

He retorted: “I hope to remain MP for many years to come yet.” Indeed, at the start of the campaign his office sent out a note with his contact details “during the dissolution of parliament” - the clear assumption being that he would be re-elected.

In a famous interview with BBC political editor John Cole in 1987, Margaret Thatcher, asked if it would be her last election said: “I hope to go on and on.” Many said that untypical slip from the normally sure-footed Iron Lady marked the beginning of the end for her.
