Walkers’ fundraising efforts commended
Walkers who raised £ 7,500 for our charity of the year in a stroll around the coast have been praised for their efforts.
Volunteers made the 25-mile walk from Whitstable to Ramsgate for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
The charity supports sufferers of the degenerative wasting condition and Clive Hudson, from The MND Association, said: “We would like to thank the businesses and individuals who supported the event and would especially like to thank all the walkers for participating and helping the association raise awareness of this devastating disease while also raising much needed funds for research into the causes and eventually the cure for MND.”
In what was the first the time the walk had been staged, the first group of walkers left Whit- stable before another group joined them at Minnis Bay in Birchington to walk 13 miles to Ramsgate.
A final group then joined them at Kingsgate to walk five miles to Ramsgate.
In total, a distance of 1,251 miles was covered by all 83 individuals.
Wearing blue T-shirts, the walkers snaked through Birchington, Westgate, Margate, Kingsgate and Broadstairs into Ramsgate, finishing with wellearned refreshments in the Churchill Tavern.
