Morris defies challenging conditions to secure cup

Staunch south-westerly winds greeted anglers who took to the boats on Sunday competing for the Heron Angling Society’s Claire V Weniger Cup competition. Catch rates were relatively slow but all weighed in bags consisting of skate, dogfish, smoothounds and whiting. Tony Morris again took top spot, catching 24 fish including two thornback rays for a winning weight of 43lb 5.7oz. Lewis Perry-french was runner-up with six fish weighing 29lb 6,3ozs with Ben Morris in third with 20 fish weighing 24lb 13.6oz. The heaviest fish of the day fell to Dave Neiles with a ray of 9lb 1.6oz while Mick Morris had the heaviest smoothound at 8lb 0.4oz. On Sunday, Herne Bay Angling Association are holding a best specimen fish boat competition, fishing times are 10am-5pm.
