Artichoke A head the Canterbury & District League, Premier Division after beating main rivals Dove Inn B 2-0. Both teams went into the game unbeaten but Choke took the opening leg led by Graham Snow who hit 26 of the 32 needed. Mark Goldup’s 20 took them to 51 and in reply, Dove were all out for 40. Littlebour­ne Rec sit third despite losing 2-0 to the Golden Lion A while Golden Lion B and the Catholic Club drew 1-1 after a stalemate in their third leg bowl out. For Lions, Tony Jenner hit 55 and James Clements 31 while Martin Whale replied with 37 for the Catholic Club. Dover Castle secured their first league win, beating Gentil Knyght C 2-1. Division 1 leaders Compasses lost their first league game, 2-1 to Market Inn A for whom Paul Maxey hit 35 runs. Gentil Knyght B are now joint top after defeating Two Brothers 2-0. Alan Coleman hit 33 runs in the first leg for Division 2 leaders Faversham Town FC as they beat Red Lion A 2-0 while Castle B beat Shipwright Arms 2-0 with big scores from Lee Rigden (60) and Jamie Rigden (43). Two Brewers A saw off Evenhill Crusaders B 2-0 to stay top of Division 3 and they are joined by Freewheel 2-1 winners over Dove Inn. Smugglers B reached the Festival Cup final by knocking out 2016 winners Evenhill Crusaders A 2-1. Kestrels will join them after overcoming Littlebour­ne Rec 2-1. Nick Seargant hit 56 for the Rec while for ther winners, Steve Bassett came out of retirement and rattled up 50 runs, 42 of which came in the decisive leg.

Canterbury & District Ladies League teams competed in the opening round of the Cackett Cup. After bowling Red Lion A out for 13 runs, Castle B’s first batter Kim Miller knocked up the 14 runs needed to take the opening leg. Red Lion A took the second leg but Miller scored the 22 runs required to take the third leg and the game. Kings Head A lost 2-1 at Home to the Catholic Club despite Mel Leonard taking an impressive five traps. Denize Lipyeat scored 25 in the first leg for the winners. Three traps from Amy Pascal wasn’t enough to prevent Ye Olde Beverlie losing 2-0 at home to Golden Lion ladies. Other Cackett Cup results: Red Lion B 2 Ratling Club 1, Artichoke 2 Castle B 0, Kings Head B 2 Haywain 0.

Rita Pavely, from Golden Lionesses, won the Captain’s competitio­n at the Market Inn, Faversham, beating Michelle Streeter (Red Lion A) 2-0.
