Baker beaten in sprint finish

Cycling

Alex Baker was runner-up as three Adalta CC riders raced the Cyclopark Development Series. Baker and Nick Saunders pushed the pace to split the field with two riders breaking free. Baker pushed hard to create a gap, with Saunders in the main bunch chasing any attacks. Baker caught the break and the group of three became four as another rider joined. The Adalta rider found himself in an all-out sprint for the line with the remaining breakaway rider but cramp forced him to accept second place, securing his 3rd Cat Licence. Saunders was caught behind a crash on the final few bends and rolled home with Mark Stockley.

Yiannis Christodoulou finished second in his category at the National Aquathlon Championships in Leeds. He said: “I am over the moon as this time last week I didn’t think I would make the start line due to injuries. I was 12th overall and over 40 seconds faster than last year.”
