Doubles for Shepherd and Jezzard
Broome Park GC
The highlight of the Broome Park golfing calendar was staged at the weekend as 76 players competed for the prestigious Broome Park Trophy and club championship over two days of fine weather.
Reigning women’s champion Sue Shepherd produced two fine rounds to claim both pieces of silverware.
The 16-handicapper and Alison Doe (h32) were joint leaders after net 73s on Saturday and both then carded net 76s on the Sunday to finish with an aggregate of 149 over the two days.
Shepherd claimed the title on countback and also picked up the women’s club championship with the lowest gross score of 181.
Nieves Clark finished third, after net rounds of 75 and 78 playing off 19.
Tom Jezzard scooped both men’s trophies, winning the Broome Park Trophy with a net 69 on Saturday, followed by a 70 on the Sunday for an aggregate of 139.
Playing off two, the club championship John Downs Salver was also Jezzard’s with the lowest gross score of 143.
Gavin Armstrong (h12) was a close runner-up with a net 72 and 68 for an aggregate of 140.
Third place went to Kyle Bennett (h4) after a 73 and 70 gave him an aggregate of 143.
The Broome Park Ladies Open on Monday attracted 20 teams of three from clubs around Kent in a Texas Scramble. The winners were Theresa Harris, Zophya Richards and Jane Ellison from Boughton GC with a net 62.
Runners- up were Chestfield’s Lynne Evison, Mo Fentiman and Jo Sillitoe a further shot back while third place went to Gill Palin, Maz Greenin and Mary Mallin from Westgate & Birchington who pipped Eltham Warren on countback.
Nearest-the-pin on the 2nd was Maz Greenin of Westgate & Birchington.
Nearest the pin on the 17th went to Kathy Lloyd from Chestfield GC and the straightest drive on the 9th was won by Margo Bronger from Sheerness GC.
The raffle for the lady captain’s charity raised £332 going to the Fifth Trust at Barham.
