SWIMMING: YOUNGSTERS IMPRESS ON WAY TO FINE VICTORY IN MEMORIAL GALA

-

A team of 26 youngsters from the City of Canterbury Swimming Club emerged triumphant at the Mike Legrys gala hosted by Beachfield Swimming Club in Sheerness.

Competing against five other Kent clubs, the squad, aged between nine and 18, contested 50 races covering all four strokes and relays.

Canterbury took the lead at the halfway mark and never relented to finish as overall winners and claim the winner’s shield.

The gala is in memory of the late Mike Legrys, who founded the Beachfield Swimming club 31 years ago and was held in a great atmosphere with much noisy team support.

Congratulations are due to the Canterbury coaching staff Tony Smith (director of swimming), Yolanda Spears, Luurt Koets and Donna Benson who orchestrated a strong win – with every competitor making a contribution.

Overall it was a fantastic night of swimming.
