Revealed: plans for new city suburb 700 homes, school and new roads
Another step towards the urbanisation of countryside around Canterbury can be revealed by the Gazette today (Thursday).
It shows the scale of a new 700 home housing estate planned for Sturry together with the route of a £32 million by-pass to try and ease traffic congestion.
The development is expected to be rubber-stamped by the city council because the site is already allocated in the Local Plan – as is a separate application for 300 homes to the north of the site in Broad Oak when that is forthcoming.
But the new relief road, which includes a 300-metre long viaduct, and is largely being paid for by developers, is expected to ease queuing at the Sturry level crossing.
