Long-standing club records fall at summer gala

Faversham SC swimmers achieved 21 podium finishes and broke eight club records at their home gala.

Swimmers were welcomed from Beachfield, City of Canterbury, Herne Bay, Sheerness and Thanet Swim Club to outdoor Midsummer Gala.

The oldest club record – dating back to 1979 –was broken by Bella Holt in the 11-years onelength breaststro­ke.

Other records were broken by Emily Holt in the 15-years onelength freestyle, Eva Mcintyre in the 14-years one-length butterfly and Max Fordyce in the 12-years one-length butterfly – breaking a 32-yearold record – and one-length breaststro­ke.

Nathan Williams broke records in the 14-years onelength butterfly and freestyle – breaking a 30-year-old record – while Rebecca Crouch broke a record of going back 35 years, in the 17+ one-length backstroke.

There were wins for Mcintyre in the under-18 one-length fly, Sophie Molton in the under-13 one-length freestyle, Molly Fletcher–hebden in the under-13 one-length breaststro­ke), Harry Miles in the under-10 one-length fly, Emily Holt in the under-15 onelength freestyle and Williams in the under-15 one-length freestyle.

There were second places for Crouch in the under-18 one-length backstroke, Bella Holt in the under-12 onelength breaststro­ke, Ellie Waller in the under-15 onelength breaststro­ke, Amy Coupe in the under-15 onelength backstroke, Fordyce in the under-13 one-length breaststro­ke and Samuel Hawkins in the under-13 onelength backstroke.

Third places went to Cameron Bullard, Fordyce, Williams, Molly Fordyce, Scott Pearce, Thomas Russell, Poppy Boorman and the under-10 freestyle relay team of Miles, Eva Wade, Nina Connell and Bullard.

There were also personal bests by Keira Drury, Morgen Jan, Lucy Brimson, Oscar Williams, Luke Holdsworth, Emily Ing, Olivia Springett, Martha Roe, Nicola Crouch, Nelly Murray, Holly Joiner and Eliza Mills.

Head coach Paul Holt said: “Massive congratula­tions to all our swimmers who competed on Saturday, PBS and club records smashed, some of which were long-standing.

“A special mention to Poppy Boorman and Rebecca Crouch who competed in their last gala for the club – both have been exemplary in their attitude and will be a huge loss.

“A big thanks to all the coaches and volunteers who helped make the results achievable and the night a success.”

The Tesco Shield was awarded jointly to Boorman and Crouch and the Tesco Star won jointly by Keira Drury and Luke Holdsworth at their first gala.
