Cathedral call
An exhibition of the £24.7 million restoration and development project at Canterbury Cathedral goes on show on Wednesday, September 20 - not the 30th, as reported in last week’s Gazette. The four-year refurbishment is the largest on the building in 100 years and includes repairing the leaking Nave roof, restoring the Christ Church Gate and developing a welcome centre, which will provide a new entrance to the Precincts. It is being funded with a £13.8 million Heritage Lottery grant and £10.9 million from other donations. Explore Your Cathedral opens at 1pm and on show will be artists’ impressions of the welcome centre, displays and information. The Cathedral will be free to enter after 4pm and most activities will continue during Evensong at 5.30pm.
