Spring start for college Great Hall

-

Kent College will start work in the spring on a 600-seat auditorium.

The independent school has won planning permission from Canterbury City Council to build the Great Hall, which will provide a venue for worship, concerts and performing arts productions.

Headmaster Dr David Lamper said: “The Great Hall is another step for Kent College in building a world-class campus and it will be used as a versatile and practical space for the school’s highly regarded drama and music departments and for the wider local community.

“This project is a reflection of the high level of confidence which the community has in Kent College.

“It is due to excellent pastoral care and focus on the develop- ment of students as individuals, often requiring bespoke programmes, resulting in impressive success both academically and in other fields, placing Kent College among the best schools in the country.”

The building has been three years in the planning and is due to be complete in 2019.

It includes state- of- the- art architectural features which allow the foyer to contract or expand and the capacity to reduce the size of the auditorium to 389 seats.
