Gardeners get baking
The scent of flowers and home baking filled a village hall as gardeners in Godmersham and Crundale celebrated their annual show.
A staggering 425 entries included 25 in the Mary Berry’s Apple Desert Cake class, with David Lloyd rallying men to beat their female counterparts. But despite a boost in the number of male entrants, Phyllis Jewell’s effort won, with Dick Johnson highly commended.
Organisers were also pleased with the large increase in entries from children, who produced vegetable animals, floral hats, miniature gardens, potato prints and smiley faces.
The society’s next event is a talk by the head gardener of Great Dixter, Fergus Garrett, next Thursday at the village hall.
