Champions start with win

Market Inn A began their bid to retain the Faversham Darts League title with a 7-4 win at home to the Castle B.

The Market took a 4-1 lead after the doubles and trebles, assisted by a 130 check-out from Sean Possee.

Pete Davies made it 5-1 and although Shane Clemmence and Kyle Boakes reduced the deficit, Market sealed the victory through Darren Bucher and Possee before Keith Ralph salvaged a late consolatio­n.

The Brents hosted The Bull B and held a 3-2 lead following the doubles and trebles with 180s from Michael Cooper and C. Alexander.

Wins for Steve Alexander and Dave Kirby put the Bull in front 4-3 before the Brents stepped up a gear, winning the next four singles without dropping a leg to seal a 7-4 victory through Martin Cole, Lenny Boorman, Kieron Boorman and Sean Gore.

The Bull A hosted newcomers the Queens Head, who led 3-2 after the doubles and trebles, but the Bull won all the singles games – dropping only one leg –to get their season off to a flier.

The Market B travelled to the Castle A to get their challenge underway.

The Market flew out of the blocks to take a 5-0 lead with Paul Jones making easy work of a 116 finish.

They completed a 10-1 victory with Bob Mason preventing the whitewash for the Castle.

The Three Horseshoes A started their season at home to the Three Tuns but fell 4-1 behind.

Rory Gatward increased The Tuns lead and although Ryan Short and Tom Smith made it 5-3, Gary Muddiman, Steve Phythian and Louis Reynolds gave the Tuns an 8-3 win.

The Rugby Club return to the league this season and opened at home to the Three Horseshoes B.

The Shoes showed their title credential­s leading 5-0 after the doubles and trebles, helped by a 140 checkout from Rob Forber.

Victory was sealed with wins from J. Edwards, Forber, Pete Jones and Darren Wilkinson but the Rugby Club took the last two games to prevent the shut out.

The Railway must wait a week to begin their season due to an odd number of teams in the league.
