Pair make most of chance

Colin Goldsack and Chris Dawson joined forces to win Canterbury BC’S annual Matthew Allen Cup competitio­n.

The pairs competitio­n – for duos with less than a 12 handicap combined – was played over three games of 11 ends with the two best scores playing in the final.

Cyril Hutchinson and Jo Vandepeer were the only team to win all three matches and faced Goldsack and Dawson, who had won two and drawn one and pipped Alan Burnap and John King to the final on the number of ends they had won.

However, in the final, Hutchinson and Vandapeer were beat 12-7.

Canterbury were also visited by the touring side Bowlers on Tour.

Drawing on one and only winning three of 12 triples played, Canterbury lost the match by 66 shots. Bay also won two of six rinks played on their visit to Cobham, losing by 32 shots overall. Bay did, however, win all 10 rinks played in a mixed match at home to Spring Park and by 149 shots in total.
