Fair helps care of animals

-

The cooler weather did little to dampen the spirits of visitors to the annual Lord Whisky Sanctuary autumn fair, with supporters out in force.

Crowds were treated to live music from The Ashford Concert Band and folk band Joskins Duo during Saturday’s event, which raised money for the care of the animals at the sanctuary in Stelling Minnis.

There was a tombola and a host of stalls selling a variety of products, and visitors were also able to meet some of the furry Lord Whisky residents.

Founder Margaret Todd says despite the normal concerns about the weather, the day ran smoothly with £1,418 raised.

“The money will go towards the feeding and the care of the animals,” she said. “We’ve got over 40 dogs and 20 horses, which is obviously a lot to care for.

“We’re also particularly busy taking in abandoned hedgehogs which wouldn’t survive the winter.”

Mrs Todd says the charity is already looking ahead to its next fair at Christmas and is appealing for help from anybody able to make costumes for its nativity scene.

She added: “We hold four events a year and they are important in helping raise money to look after the animals.

“We’re also always looking for people who would like to adopt an animal.”
