Joe wins two from three

Peter Foster and Sally Blissett won the top individual prizes during Canterbury Bowling Club’s finals day.
Peter Foster beat John King 23-13 to win the men’s championship while Blissett beat Maureen Dilnot 21-9 to take the ladies’ title.
The men’s handicap was won by Dave Todd in a close game against young Joe Vandepeer, and, in the ladies’ handicap, Sue Mates led throughout the final against Christiane De Weduwe to triumph 21-13.
In the club over-65 final, Bob Keen stormed into a 14-3 lead over Dave Todd but Todd then picked up his game and at 19 ends they were all square.
Keen, at 19-18 was holding one shot before Todd knocked in his opponent’s wood to give him the game 21-18.
Vandepeer gave six points to first year bowler John Smith in the Court Cup but was soon in the lead going on to to win 21-14.
Chrissy Barr edged to a 16-14 win over Sue Mates in the ladies’ two wood, while the two wood men’s singles was won by Alan Cornfoot who pipped Dave Todd 14-13.
Sue Mates and John King teamed up to beat Sally Blissett and Steve Wells in the mixed pairs.
They led 14-8 up at 13 ends and, with the game 15-15 on the 20th end, King drew the winning shot.
Angela Hudson and Maureen Dilnot beat Angela Hudson and Jenny Mitchell 15-10 in the ladies’ pairs and and in the ladies Court Cup, Maureen Dilnot pulled clear of Val Lundin in the last two ends to triumph 21-16.
