Bay return to form in style

Bostik South

-

Herne Bay are ninth in Bostik South after bouncing back from Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Cray Wanderers with a 3- 0 win at home to Ashford on Tuesday night. The visitors were outplayed at Cray, where midfielder Karl Dent ran the show and striker Michael Power scored a hat-trick. Alex Mulrooney-skinner fired a shot into the side netting for Bay but it needed an excellent save from Ben Hunter to prevent Dent putting Cray in front. Bay conceded a soft penalty when Jack Steventon bundled over Ben Mundlee and Power made no mistake from 12 yards. Power converted another penalty when Hunter brought down Zac Henry and the visitors missed good chances to get back in the game. Ten minutes into the second half, Power completed his treble with a shot from the edge of the area when Bay gave him too much space. Jake Embery netted a consolation for the visitors when Jono Richardson nodded a deep corner back across the face of goal. It was a different story back at Winch’s Field in midweek, though. Bay led midway through the first half when Ashford’s Michael Phillips put through his own goal. Junior Aikhionbare doubled the lead 17 minutes from time and four minutes later, Nassim Dukali put the result beyond doubt with a penalty. A tough week for Faversham Town saw them beaten 1- 0 at home by Corinthian Casuals on Saturday. The only goal was scored on the stroke of half-time by Daniel Cunningham, who turned Tommy Smith’s cross into the net with a scissor kick. Cunningham missed a good chance in the second half, firing over as Simon Overland raced out to meet him. Faversham almost snatched a late equaliser but Dan Carrington’s close-range header was tipped over by Casuals keeper Danny Bracken. Another defeat followed on Tuesday night when former Lilywhites striker Dean Grant sunk his former club with a hat-trick for Hythe as it finished 3- 0 at Reachfields.
