Hit-and-run victim named

A young man killed in a hit-and-run on the A2 near Canterbury has been named as University of Kent student Ibrahim Sheikh.

The body of the 22-year-old was discovered lying in the coastbound carriagewa­y near the BP garage shortly after 2am on September 26.

Mr Sheikh, from Leicester, was studying sociology. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, with police quickly establishi­ng he had been hit by a vehicle.

Officers closed the sevenmile stretch from Brenley Corner to Harbledown until 8am for specialist officers to examine the scene.

The victim’s family were informed of his death soon after the tragedy.

He has now been formally named by the coroner and an inquest opened and adjourned for further inquiries.

The police are continuing to appeal for anyone with informatio­n about the incident and the death of Mr Sheikh to call 01622 798538, quoting AW-DW 216-17.
