HERNE BAY: NEWMAN-COLLINS WRAPS UP THE POINTS AS SECOND STRING MAINTAIN THEIR IMPRESSIVE START
While Herne Bay’s men slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Old Bordenians, the 2nds continued their strong start. Bay enjoyed a 3-0 win over Sutton Valence 2nds to make it back-to-back wins and go top on goal difference. Simon Collins teed-up Paul Mcvey to score the first goal and a Darren Hollands save kept it 1-0 at the break. Lee Gardiner shot from the top of the D to make it 2-0 seconds into the second half and it was three when Stuart Hume controlled an aerial ball and fired into the D for Simon NewmanCollins to deflect past the keeper. The 3rds were edged out by the only goal at Tunbridge Wells 4ths. Both keepers were called into action in a goalless first half while Jay Newell was foiled three times after the break following good work from Adam Foster and David White. The 4ths came from behind to draw 3-3 at Sevenoaks 8ths. It was 1-0 to Oaks at the break but Steve Port, Alfie Forbes and Ashley Horwell netted in the second half and Bay were denied a winner by the post. The 5ths were edged out 3-2 by K Sports 2nds at Cobdown with Lewis Quirke and Tim Freeman goals in vain. Bay Ladies were out of action but the 2nds slipped to a 3-1 defeat against the University of Kent. The opening students’ goal arrived on the break but Amber Potter levelled after half-time, only for a scrappy second and a late third to condemn them to defeat.
