Spending much more than a penny

-

A block of toilets has sold at auction for almost three times the asking price.

The building in Longport was listed by Kent auctioneer Clive Emson at £30-35,000, but one flush investor snapped up the property for £120,000.

They will need to obtain planning permission to develop the site, which was disposed of by the cash-strapped city council.

The former WCS are opposite the pay-and-display car park and near to Canterbury College and the University for the Creative Arts.

Auctioneer Kevin Gilbert, who sold the lot on Monday, said: “There might be potential to develop this block as long as all necessary consents are obtainable.

“It is a quirky building and its potential led to a lot of interest at the sale, both in the rooms and over the phones.”

At the same auction a former four- storey office building in Beer Cart Lane sold for £372,000 – more than £40,000 above the asking price.

Woodland next to Sunnyside, Wood Hill, Tyler Hill, also went under the hammer for £85,000, which was five times the guide price.
